With Mark Bentley and Mischief Theatre, Kenny is the producer of the hit productions THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG (Laurence Olivier Winner Best New Comedy), PETER PAN GOES WRONG and THE COMEDY ABOUT A BANK ROBBERY.
Kenny is very proud to have produced the world premiere production of Top Hat, which was the recipient of three Laurence Olivier Awards including Best New Musical (having been nominated in seven categories). Top Hat also won the Evening Standard Award for ‘Best Night Out’. Kenny produced Once On This Island for Imagination at the Royalty Theatre which won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical in 1995 having been nominated in four categories. He also co-produced Leonard Bernstein’s Wonderful Town starring Connie Fisher which won the Manchester Theatre Award for Best Production 2012.
Having graduated with a BA (hons) in Business Studies, Kenny started his career as an usher at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, at the beginning of the run of Miss Saigon in September 1989. Twelve weeks later, he joined theatre advertising agency Dewynters and left there after a year to work for Cameron Mackintosh as a runner on Just So (Tricycle). His first Producing Credit was Kickin’ the Clouds Away at the King’s Head, where he was general manager for two years.
Since then he has produced Neil Labute’s The Shape of Things (New Ambassadors); Maddie (Lyric), The Challenge (Shaw), and tours of The Witches of Eastwick starring Marti Pellow, Aspects of Love starring David Essex, Anthems with legendary Queen Guitarist Brian May and Kerry Ellis, Hobson’s Choice starring John Savident (co-production with Chichester Festival Theatre), Stiles and Drewe’s Olivier Award winning National Theatre production of Honk directed by Julia McKenzie, Ben Elton’s Gasping, starring David Haig; Gerald Moon’s Corpse, Something Wonderful – a tribute to Rodgers and Hammerstein, Rosamunde Pilcher’s The Shell Seekers, starring Stephanie Cole, Rosemary Leach and Susannah York, Bedroom Farce, Strangers On A Train, Rain Man starring Neil Morrisey, My Boy Jack, starring David Haig and Belinda Lang, Arsenic and Old Lace, with Angela Thorne, Brigit Forsyth and Sylvester McCoy and Marrying the Mistress, adapted from the Joanna Trollope novel of the same name.
Kenny has built up a reputation of being one of the most prolific providers of shows for Children in the West End and around the Provinces titles which include Jacqueline Wilson’s Hetty Feather (Vaudeville Theatre), David Walliams’ Mr Stink (UK Tour), The Gruffalo (Lyric & Duchess Theatres and Tour), The Gruffalo’s Child (Arts Theatre and Tour) Room On The Broom, Laurence Olivier Award nomination ‘Best Family Entertainment’ (Lyric & Garrick Theatres and UK Tour), The Tiger Who Came to Tea (Lyric & Vaudeville Theatres and tour), Laurence Olivier Award nomination ‘Best Family Entertainment’, We’re Going On A Bearhunt, Duchess and Lyric Theatres (UK, Australia and North America Tour) and Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks’ picture book What the Ladybird Heard (UK Tour, Cadogan Hall).
General Management credits include the UK tour of Happy Days, Pete Townshend’s rock opera Quadrophenia, Chess in Concert at the Royal Albert Hall for Tim Rice, Time of My Life for Cameron Mackintosh at the Bristol Old Vic, The Night of 1000 Voices for Hugh Wooldridge at the Royal Albert Hall, Carries War (Tour) for Novel Theatre and The Woman in Black for 5 years at the Fortune Theatre and on tour for PW Productions with whom he was also proud to have produced West End and Touring productions of the Royal National Theatre Theatre’s An Inspector Calls directed by Stephen Daldry.
Kenny is on the board of the Society of West End Theatre and was this year invited to appear in directory Who’s Who – an honour which he accepted.
